APSA, Singapore to host conference on crime and terrorism
The conference is being held in the backdrop of the recent terror attacks in India and Pakistan and also the current economic crisis.
The Asian Professional Security Association (APSA), Singapore Chapter, will be hosting its 16th APSA International conference on ‘Regional cooperation in combating crime and terrorism’ between September 30 and October 1, 2009 at the Suntec City, Singapore.
The conference, which is an annual event, is organised by the Asian Professional Security Association International with chapter countries from China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia Malaysia, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. Singapore is hosting this event for the second time.
According to Joseph Tang, president, APSA Singapore Chapter, “Regional cooperation in combating crime and terrorism” will reflect the importance of working together by all chapter countries (non-chapter countries included) in combating crime and terrorism.”
“With the current severe financial crisis, crimes are expected to rise. Local and international crime syndicates will be working together for their undesirable motives. The Marriott Hotel Bombing in Pakistan on September 28 and Mumbai terror attack on November 26, 2008 are testimonies of rising terrorism trend. We have lined up a wide range of security topics. Distinguished speakers from the region including USA, UK and many other countries will share their expert fields in crime prevention and anti-terrorism,” he said.
Tang believes that this conference will offer new insights and broaden security perspectives. Keynote speaker Dr Ajith Kumar from India, will dwell on ‘Global threats and challenges - State of the art access card technology’.
The conference will also offer insights into recent terrorist incidents, counter-terrorism, best industry practices in running security business and crime prevention, among others. It will also deliberate on copyright acts against counterfeiting and piracy, latest technologies against counterfeiting and fraudulent detection and prevention. Day 2 will see action on aviation security, maritime security and security training and networking lunch will cover crisis management, business continuity planning, computer security, retail and bank security.
Yang Jin Cai, CEO and president, Asia Anti-Counterfeiting Association, will deliver the opening address. |
